WHS Students Shine At Science Fair

Congratulations to Wellington High School students who participated in the 2003 Regional Science Fair:

First place winners were Scott Perry - botany, Matthew Mazur - computers, Aubrey Phillips - earth science, Patrick Geer - environmental, and Bill Gustin - microbiology. Second place winners were Shamma Hossain - botany, Gavin Stern - computers, Jessica Phillips - environmental, Charles Addicott - math, and Erin Schwartz - physics. Third place winners were Katie Alijewicz - behavioral science, Jordan Arvan - behavioral science, Adam Glintz - biochemistry, Brandon Hoilett and Priyank Pandey - computers, Brittany Cos - microbiology, Apostolos Politis - physics, and John Stechshulte - zoology. Fourth place winners were Lourdes Rivera, Kevin Reeder, and Adam Rothman in behavioral science, Andrew Stirling - biochenistry, Katie Dempsey - environmental, Erin Ringler - medicine & health, Eugene Liu and Michael Wilkinson - physics, Lucas Caraballo - zoology, and Kyle Blomberg and Garett Galloway - teams.

Scott Perry took the Ann Henderson Foundation award of $100 and a plaque. All of the first and second place winners will be competing in the State Science Fair in Jacksonville in April.

Special recognition awards were given out as well: Charles Addicott took the U.S. Metric Society Recognition Award and the Yale Science and Engineering Recognition Award. Patrick Geer received awards from the Florida Sugar Cane League, Intel Excellence in Environmental Science, Pollution Prevention Coalition of PBC, and the Stockholm Junior Water Prize. Bill Gustin, Shamma Hossain, and Scott Perry took awards from the Florida Sugar Cane League and Gustin and Jessie Phillips received honorable mention awards from the Pollution Prevention Coalition of PBC. Hossain and Matt Mazur also received the Navy League of the United States Recognition Award. Mazur, Aubrey Phillips, and Jessie Phillips received the Intel Excellence in Environmental Science Award and Mazur also received the I.E.E.E. award. Erin Schwartz and Gavin Stern took the Yale Science and Engineering Recognition Award, and Aubrey Phillips won an award from the Association for Women Geoscientists.
