Among 86 University of North Dakota undergraduate students chosen to serve as Grey Gowns for the main UND spring commencement ceremony was Lori Larson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Larson, Bismarck. Grey Gowns are honorary ushers and marshals selected to serve at commencement on the basis of academic excellence, with service and campus leadership also considered.
BJC (Bismarck Junior College)
Nearly 18 percent of the full-time students who attended Bismarck Junior College during the spring semester were named to the BJC president's honor roll for maintaining at least a 3.50 grade point average on a 4.00 scale. Of the 1,442 full-time students, 257 were named to the honor roll.

Nine Bismarck Junior College students were winners in the Distributive Education Clubs of America marketing and distributing convention held in Bismarck.
Judy Schneider of Minot, a BJC student, was elected state junior collegiate president. Holly Jacober and Kim Mosbrucker, both BJC students from Mandan, are the outgoing president and treasurer, respectively.
Following are BJC students who were winners in competition held during the convention: Bismarck students: Lynn Adolf, competency winner in finance credit; Cathy Lamontagne, first place overall in general merchandising, second place in management decision making —merchandise; Tor Olson, first in sales manager category; Donna Silbernagel, second in management decision making — human relations, first in communication competency — general merchandising, and second overall in general merchandising; and Karen Ziegler, first in fashion merchandising and first in apparel and accessories.
From other cities: Holly Jacober, Mandan, first in sales representative and first in management decision making — merchandise. Vernee Heine, Hazen, first in communications competency in food services, first in selling — food services, and first place overall in food services. Kathy Rohweder, Wishek, second in sales representative and second overall in food services.
Kim Kautzman of Bismarck and Vernee Heine of Hazen placed first in a joint advertising campaign. James Wright and Murray Turner, BJC management instructors, are advisers of the BJC DECA club.
Bismarck Junior College honored nearly 90 students during the 12th annual recognition dinner for BJC students. Awards were presented for academic achievement and leadership in various areas of study by faculty members and representatives of organizations or businesses which sponsored the awards.
Students honored for excellence in science were: Nancy Zander, Mandan, and Jeffrey Harmon, Bismarck, Chemical Rubber Co. chemistry awards; Marie Jennings and Harmon, both of Bismarck, freshmen science awards; and Harmon, Mark Olmsted, Letha Sellner and David Stickney, all of Bismarck, Quain and Ramstad Clinic awards.
Awards in business adminstration and education were presented to: Sandy Schatz, Regent, Conklin business adminstration award; Calvin Mees, Bismarck, Provident Life business administration award; Kevin Evert, Sterling, Provident Life data processing award; Carol Wangler, Mandan, Wall Street Journal award; Delores Dillmann, Mandan, Woodmansee Stationery business administration award; Becky Schmidt, Mandan, National Secretaries Association (Sakakawea Chapter) award; and Donna Hoffman and Kathy J. Johnston, both of Bismarck, Mrs. Thomas Leach secretarial award.
Academic wrestling awards were presented to: Dean Bondeson, Gregory Heinz, Gregory Jund, Jeff Schumacher and Jerry Vandersloot, all of Bismarck; Mike Kelner, Velva; Tim Kruckenberg, Mandan; John Tescher, Beach; and Steve Thorstenson, Libby, Mont.
Music and drama awards were presented to: David Fleig and Sandra "Sam" Williams, both of Bismarck, BJC drama awards; Vernon Paulson, Bowman, and Jacqueline Holloway, Bismarck, Gateway Super Valu dramatics awards; David Nicolai, Bismarck, Neil Taft memorial music scholarship award; Beth Grabinger, Mandan, Sweet Adelines vocal music award; and Denise Moen, Steele, Wylie Piano Co. music award.
Students honored in other areas were: Kathleen L. Johnston, Bismarck, The Bismarck Tribune journalism award; Renee Boehm, Mandan, Burke-Wilson Burleigh County Bar Association award; Mark Olson, Bismarck, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. political science award; Julie Jackson, Bismarck Delta Kappa Gamma award; Kathy J. Johnston, Bismarck, Deluxe Cleaners and Capital Laundry language award; Randall Binegar and Norine Kautzman, both of Bismarck, Milton Rue engineering awards; and Stuart Dolan, Ray, BJC Student Union award.
Also honored were 27 students named to Phi Theta Kappa, a national junior college honorary society.
Students must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average to be nominated. Those honored were Mark Dagley, Delilah Eakman, Hans Eggers, Ralph Hollenbeck, Norine Kautzman, Letha Sellner, John Stenerson, Connie Stuhlmiller, Lori Turrito, Wyola Valandra, Scott Wagner, Gail Yopngs and Duane Kurtz, all of Bismarck.
Other students named to Phi Theta Kappa are Delores Dillmann, Donald Sorensen ad Carol Wangler, all of Mandan; Scott Aalund, Mohall; Duane Domek, Ypsilanti; Jeffrey Clinger, Hazen; Bruce Kirchmeier, New Salem; Yvonne Koepplin, Elgin; Eileen Leno and Debra Scherbenske-Livingston, both of Tuttle; Sandy Schatz, Regent; Kirk Schauer, Jamestown; Jacqueline Topp, Grace City; and Neil Volk, Hague.
Thirty-four students who had been named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges" earlier this year also were honored at the dinner.
EC (Evangel College)
Barbara L. Doan, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milo W. Hoisveen, 1208 N. First St., was granted a behavioral sciences scholarship for the 1981-82 academic year at Evangel College, Springfield, Mo. A 1965 graduate of Bismarck High School, she is a junior majoring in psychology.
